Minors cannot open accounts on Facebook and Instagram

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, WhatsApp, Telegram are one of the world's social media platforms. People spend time on some social media all the time. Now social media is not just a platform for posting pictures, statuses or videos. It has become a great platform for business or earning money.

However, these platforms are being used by men and women of all ages. As a result, children are getting involved in various misdeeds. Adult content is also coming in front of children. However, Meta has brought new laws to keep children or minors away from social media.

Minors will now need permission from their parents or guardians to open social media accounts. Without this permission, minors will not be able to open social media accounts or emails.

In India, the Parliament has passed such a law at this moment. In 2023, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act was passed by the Parliament in India. After 14 months, the draft rules of that law were published. Many minors are seen opening accounts on social media like Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc. If this rule is finalized, social media companies will not be able to do that.

Social media companies must obtain parental consent when collecting information from minors when opening accounts. The identity of the guardian must also be verified.
